Summer with Seniors continued in Košice with an afternoon of traditions, music and community

Following the successful opening event in Rožňava, the Summer with Seniors programme continued in Košice at the Anička Recreation Area. Organised by Via Carpatia EGTC in cooperation with the Košice Regional Organisation of the Union of Pensioners in Slovakia, the event was the second of four summer gatherings designed for seniors, their families and the wider public. Once again, visitors enjoyed an afternoon filled with traditions, music and shared experiences.
Throughout the afternoon, the stage featured performances by senior folk and singing groups from Košice and the surrounding region. Performing ensembles included Olšava from Ruskov, Sokoli from Sokoľ, Garbočanka from Bohdanovce, Ploščan from Ploské, Polhoran from Nová Polhora, Kráľovianka from Kráľovce, Ozvena from Čaňa, Hanišťanka from Haniska, the Furčaňe and Lingov groups from Košice, and Severanka from Košice–North. Their performances showcased the folk traditions, songs and customs of the regions of Abov, Zemplín, Gemer, Spiš and other parts of eastern Slovakia, demonstrating that folk culture remains a vibrant and valuable part of everyday life.
Traditional local cuisine was also an important part of the event. Local branches of the Union of Pensioners in Slovakia from Čaňa, Sokoľ, Nová Polhora and Košice prepared a variety of regional specialities, including crackling pastries, mačanka, roasted sausage served with cabbage, stuffed cabbage from the Abov region, and a wide selection of homemade spreads for visitors to enjoy.
The event was also attended by Rastislav Trnka, President of the Košice Self-Governing Region, who met with the performers and participants and sampled the traditional dishes prepared by the local organisations.
The popular Fun Zone once again welcomed the youngest visitors with inflatable attractions and face painting, creating a pleasant family atmosphere throughout the day.The event concluded with a concert by the folk band HRDZA, whose performance provided a fitting finale to the afternoon.
The second stop of the Summer with Seniors series successfully built on the atmosphere of the opening event in Rožňava. Once again, it demonstrated that bringing people together, preserving traditions and celebrating local culture strengthen community ties across generations while contributing to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Košice Region.
